INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, Fla. — Convicted murderer Rondell Reed said another Indian River County Jail inmate supplied him and his cell mate with a hacksaw blade for their escape from the jail in October, according to interrogations recorded in Ohio and obtained by the Press Journal this week.

Reed also named a corrections deputy he said may have helped that inmate get the blade. The Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into the escape that allowed Reed to go on a five-day crime spree through several states before he crashed a stolen car in Warren County, Ohio.

On Wednesday, Reed pleaded guilty to the April murder of Sebastian auto shop owner James Malone and the Oct. 24 jail escape with former cell mate Leviticus Taylor. When authorities in Ohio apprehended Reed following an Oct. 29 car crash, Warren County detectives interviewed him for nearly four hours in three sessions.
