NEW YORK — An inmate has filed suit against the city of New York and prison health care provider Corizon Health Services, alleging he was denied proper medical treatment.
Rudolph Richardson said that a correctional officer closed his cell door on his left hand, severing part of his middle finger, according to NY Mag.
He was taken to the prison clinic for treatment and was told his finger could not be saved after a doctor “briefly looked” at the injury. He was then told to “throw the detached portion of his finger into the garbage.”
Richardson refused and requested something to preserve his finger in, which the doctor “reluctantly” gave him.
Richardson was later taken to a nearby hospital where his finger was reattached. He’s suing for rights violations, medical malpractice and emotional distress.
