TOLEDO — An inmate already incarcerated at the Huron County Jail will face new charges after he ‘jail jumped,’ or intentionally jumped down a flight of stairs in order to injure himself.
Norwalk Reflector reports that David Moser, 36, jumped from the top of the mezzanine stairs to the bottom and is now in medical isolation.
“This office takes whatever means we can to keep these self-inflicted injuries from happening,” said Huron County Sheriff Dane Howard.
At present, the sheriff says that if an inmate wants to jump from the top of the stairs, there’s not a whole lot that can be done to prevent them.
“This is an obvious attempt to take advantage of the system to get early release,” he continued.
Howard says they are seeking criminal charges against Moser, saying that the medical bills that result from the injury are costly to the taxpayers. They are also seeking a civil lawsuit against the inmate.
Moser was transported to a nearby medical center for undisclosed injuries and was back in the jail by Thursday.
