NEW YORK — A correction officer rescued a lost Alzheimer’s patient right before she was nearly hit by a car on Woodhaven Boulevard in Queens Monday night.
Correction Officer Daniel Leites, 32, spotted Joanne Velasquez, 59, wearing a black T-shirt and walking aimlessly near the Queens Center mall at around 9:30 p.m.
Worried for her safety, he began to casually follow her as she walked down the street. She strolled for two blocks before suddenly stopping, looking up, and stepping into oncoming traffic at Elliot St.
