IRELAND — It’s ice-cream Sunday for murderers, robbers and convicts in the country’s jails – with menus showing inmates are treated to the tasty dessert at weekends.
Figures have revealed the Irish Prison Service paid food firms €8.3million for meals to inmates last year.
A Freedom of Information request showed cons were treated to ice-cream on Sundays in Mountjoy, Portlaoise, Cork, Shelton Abbey and Castlerea prisons.
The dessert followed a main course of chicken supreme with pepper sauce, turnips and roast potatoes.
