GUADALAJARA, Mexico — A prisoner has been accused of killing his family during a visit to the maximum-security facility where he is incarcerated.

WFMZ reports that Domingo Villa Arellano was serving a life sentence after being convicted of his wife’s murder in 2006.

His girlfriend, her 17-year-old daughter, and two of Arellano’s children from his marriage were killed Monday at the Puente Grande Prison.

Arellano said he flew into a rage when his children from his previous marriage said their stepmother mistreated them. He stabbed his girlfriend in the chest with a weapon he’d made in a prison handicrafts workshop, then also murdered the children.

His girlfriend’s daughter managed to escape, but was seriously injured and died after.

There were no officers present at the time of the visit.
