DRAPER, Utah — An prison inmate was stabbed in the head during a brawl Saturday at the Utah State Prison, according to corrections officials.
The man was punctured just behind the ear at about 3:30 p.m., said public information officer Angie Welling. He was rushed to the hospital for emergency care. The brawl occurred in one of the prison’s non-gang housing units, but prison gangs might have played a role, Welling said.
Guards did not see the fight start but are watching security tapes and will have more information about the altercation later in the week, Welling said.
The injured man came forward after guards broke up the fight, Welling said. The inmate was in stable condition late Saturday.
