ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — “It’s a picture I cannot get out of my head no matter what I do.”

For Jennifer Baldwin, 31, the image of bloodied, battered people collapsed on the lawn of a still smoldering building haunt her.

For Chelsea Lloyd, 23, it’s the memory of flames piercing the blackness before the floor ripped open in front of her.

For six Escambia County Jail inmates who survived a deadly explosion April 30, the memories of the blast are different. But the memories of the hours prior to the explosion are consistent for at least six inmates who said they smelled gas in the lockup for days beforehand.
