WASHINGTON COUNTY, Pa. — County commissioners recognized nine jail employees for their quick actions in saving lives.

The Observer-Reporter reports that three used the Heimlich maneuver to help choking inmates; another who intervened in an attempted hanging last year; two who stopped an inmate from inflicting self-harm; and another three who utilized CPR to save the lives of inmates.

COs Karen Goetz, Joe Miller, Laura Radcliffe, Matthew Bodnar, James Emler, Wendy Harris and Matthew Henderson, along with licensed practical nurse Kenvin Spragg, lined up for a photo to commemorate their hard work, but all downplayed their actions.

“Some freeze, some react,” Radcliffe said. “We reacted.”
