Chemical Aerosol Deployment

During any physical encounter there are risks, but inside a correctional facility they can be over in seconds. Understanding the limitations to your weapons delivery systems is vital to officer survival. The deployment of chemical aerosol has proven time and time again to be one of the most effective non-lethal weapon used by corrections today.

Deployment tips:

1. Know your distance REMEMBER when you deploy chemical aerosols you get contaminated too!

2. Spray in short bursts to avoid steady spray patters they can duck, dodge or defeat.

3. Combine verbal directions and physical alternative.

4. Move out of the immediate area when spraying.

5. Give it some time to be effective before you move in to control and stabilize.

6. Know where your escape routes are and do not be afraid to use them.

7. If other officers are in the immediate area have your deployment plan KNOWN before you start spraying!

8. Strobe your eyes and control your breathing if you’re contaminated during deployment.

9. Always check area for additional inmates or other threats.

10. If you are too contaminated to move and control after they go down, Wait for backup or deescalate. Remember, WE KNOW WHERE THEY LIVE!

Stay safe, stay strong, and most importantly, stay alive!
