BERGEN, NY — The employees of the Albion Correctional Facility brought gifts to a struggling family of six in Bergen on Saturday.

The Daily News reports that Keith and Cheryl Merrell and their four children received several boxes full of Christmas gifts from the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association.

Keith Merrell has Parkinson’s disease, which makes him unable to work. He has yet to receive any disability payments from from the heating, ventilation and air conditioning company he worked for.

One of the couple’s twin sons is a cancer survivor.

The secretary of Albion’s NYSCOPBA local helped to organize the gift-giving effort that included $750 for the Merrell’s presents.

This is the second year the union has sponsored holiday gift giving.

Included among the gifts were groceries, gift cards and several gifts for each of the children.
