Convicted serial killer keeps ‘good time’ after stabbing correctional officer

Craig Price, convicted of the murders of four women, is currently slated for release in 2018

PROVIDENCE, RI — A convicted murderer may be released more than four years early due to the accrual of good time credits, despite the fact that he attacked and stabbed a correctional officer.

Craig Price is currently serving time for attacking an inmate and correctional officer while incarcerated at the Adult Correctional Institution, according to WPIR.

Price was originally sentenced to 10 to 20 years in 1989 after he admitted to the murders of four women.

Rhode Island law changed in 2012 to prevent convicted murderers from receiving good time credits, but as Price is not currently serving time for his murders, he cannot be prevented from earning the credits.

Price was transferred to Florida in 2004 and attacked a correctional officer there in 2009. He was charged on four counts, found guilty and sentenced to an additional two and a half years, to be served once he completes his Rhode Island sentence.

Florida did dock Price a year’s worth of gain time, their equivalent of good time, but Rhode Island did not hand down the loss of time since Florida wrote the loss of good time in an incident report and not a disciplinary report.

Price is currently set for release in 2018.
