DOUGLAS COUNTY, Neb. — The Douglas County Board of Commissioners has honored Don Fricke for nearly three and a half decades of service to the Department of Corrections.
Donald L. Fricke began his career with the Douglas County Department of Corrections in 1978 as a Corrections Officer I. At that time, the jail was located at 11th and Dodge on top of the old Omaha Police Headquarters building. In those days the jail held 64 inmates, while today’s average population is around 1,200 individuals.
In 1979, the Douglas County Correctional Center was built and Fricke was transferred to the new location. He was promoted to sergeant in 1989.
