OSKALOOSA, Iowa — An inmate at a southern Iowa county jail is accused of assaulting two people and attempting to escape custody.

The Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office and the Oskaloosa Police Department says the incident occurred Wednesday while 18-year-old Martell Lamar Tillman-Hollinshed was visiting a local doctor for an appointment.

Tillman-Hollinshed is accused of attempting to assault a jail staff member with a fire extinguisher. He allegedly fled into a neighboring yard before others restrained him. The doctor says she was assaulted in the process.

It’s unclear whether additional charges are pending for Tillman-Hollinshed. Court records do not list an attorney.
