CORALVILLE — An Iowa inmate faces charges after allegedly assaulting a Medical and Classification Center officer with a boombox.

The inmate, Devontae Sawyers, was being placed on a celled time out for disruptive behavior, according to KCRG. The officer warned Sawyers that if he did not calm down, he would be placed on time out for the rest of the night.

Sawyers responded by shouting at the officer and charging the desk. He picked up a boombox and hurled it at the officer. The officer blocked the boombox with his hand, suffering a minor injury.

Other officers responded to the scene to restrain Sawyers, who threatened to spit in their faces and told the original officer that he’d “find him on the outside.”

Sawyers faces one count of assault on persons in certain occupations causing bodily injury.
