SALINA, Kan. — Florida man who attempted to hang himself in the Saline County Jail died a week after the incident, Sheriff Glen Kochanowski said.

John Joseph Tripp, 49, of Keystone, Fla., had been in jail since Halloween, when he was arrested on drug charges by agents with the I-135/I-70 Drug Task Force. Kochanowski said Tripp died Sunday night at Salina Regional Health Center.

Jail inmates found Tripp unconscious and hanging from the top rail of a bunk bed about 1:30 a.m. Nov. 22 with a pair of jail-issued trousers tied around his neck.
