RIVERHEAD, Long Island — The light sentence made him uneasy, he said, but a judge has sentenced the killer of an off-duty Suffolk correction officer to time served, as per the wishes of the victim’s family.
Anthony Oddone, whose manslaughter conviction in the death of Andrew Reiser of Hampton Bays was overturned in December, was sentenced under a plea deal reached last month. Oddone, 31, pleaded guilty in exchange for no further jail time.
Prosecutors said they would have preferred to try Oddone again but instead respected the wishes of Reiser’s widow Stacey, who did not want to subject the couple’s young children to another trial.
