LOUISVILLE, Ky. — An inmate at the Metro Corrections Facility was prevented from hanging himself by staff doing their regular rounds.
The Courier-Journal reports that Joseph Cambron, charged with the murder of 12-year-old Ray Etheridge, tried to hang himself in his jail cell.
An officer making a routine security check found the window to Cambron’s single, private cell covered with toilet paper. When he got no response from within, the officer entered the cell to find a towel wrapped around the inmate’s neck.
Cambron was taken down, unharmed, and moved to a more heavily monitored single cell in the medical unit.
