RACINE — A case of mistaken identity gave one Racine man a brief respite from county jail Friday evening after staff accidentally released him instead of another inmate with the same last name.
However, for only two hours out of jail, 22-year-old Jordyn D. Turner now faces a felony charge of escape, which could land him in prison for up to six years with a maximum fine of $10,000, according to his criminal complaint.
Turner was allowed to go free instead of his relative Torin T. Turner, both of whom were housed on the same floor and resembled one another, according to Lt. Dan Adams of the Racine County Sheriff’s Office.
“It wasn’t discovered until after he was released that it was actually the other gentleman that was supposed to be released,” he said Tuesday. “We were made aware almost immediately.”
According to online court records, Jordyn Turner was being held on $500 bail for three misdemeanor charges including battery, disorderly conduct and possession of marijuana.
