SANTA FE, N.M. — A memorial for the 35th anniversary of the New Mexico state penitentiary riots is planned for Monday.
Thirty-three prisoners died over two days when inmates overpowered officers, taking some of them hostage, reports KRQE.
The prison is now closed, though tours are still conducted through it.
Those involved in the riots and family members will be honored at the memorial.
