VALHALLA, NY — The woman accused of poisoning her son to death with doses of sodium is currently on suicide watch at the Westchester County jail.

Lohud reports that Lacey Spears is confined to a spare cinderblock cell with no access to the internet or any personal effects, such as pictures of the 5-year-old she’s accused of killing.

Spears is being watched around the clock by a female CO stationed directly outside her cell, located in a mental health unit.

Prosecutors think she may have Munchausen by proxy, a rare disorder where a parent sickens a child to gain attention, but no psychological evaluation has been performed.

The enforced suicide watch is not based on any specific action but on the notoriety of the case, according to warden Leandro Diaz.

Spears turned herself in on Tuesday after being indicted on second-degree and first-degree manslaughter charges in her son Garnett’s Jan. 23 death.

Authorities suspect she poisoned him with salt through a feeding tube connected to the boy’s abdomen before he entered a hospital on Jan. 17, the again on Jan. 19.
