NEW YORK — Only a day after the Auburn Correctional Facility lifted its week-long lockdown, parts of the facility were placed under a partial lockdown when a brawl broke out.

Inmates in the A and C Blocks were confined to their cells Tuesday after a brawl broke out in the rec yard, according to DOCCS public information officer Linda Foglia as reported by the Auburn Pub.

The fight comes two weeks after three correctional officers were assaulted by inmates, which had led to the previous lockdown.

Around 4:30 p.m. on March 10, a fight broke out between two inmates in the rec yard; other injmates headed toward the fight, despite being told by officers to not approach. One inmate punched a correctional officer in the chest and elbowed another in the neck, prompting the lockdown.

One group of inmates involved in the fight were from C Block, prompting the lockdown in that area.

“The department is continuing to monitor the activities at Auburn to ensure the safety of staff and inmates,” said Foglia. “The events are still being investigated.”
