ONEIDA COUNTY, NY — An Oneida County Juvenile Probation Officer is being recognized for saving the life of a 15-year-old student who collapsed from a drug overdose.
Probation Officer James Fister didn’t hesitate when the teenager collapsed in front of him, instantly beginning CPR and using a defibrillator until paramedics arrived, according to Utica OD.
Fister is also being recognized for the overall positive impact he has on the Waterville Central School District and community as a whole.
For his achievements, he has been awarded the Jeannie Farrell Award of Achievement by the New York State Probation Officer’s Association. He will be honored on August 7 in an award ceremony.
Fister is one of 12 juvenile probation officers in eight school districts across Oneida County.
