AMARILLO, Texas — An off-duty correctional officer caught and detained a man attempting to break into his vehicle until authorities arrived.
Officers arrived at a personal residence to find a shirtless man armed with a handgun chasing a man later identified as Donovan Lee Mincey, according to The Amarillo.
The shirtless man was identified as an off-duty correctional officer who had found Mincey attempting to break into his 2014 Dodge Charger. The officer said he was alerted to the attempted theft when his dogs became distressed about something outside.
The officer chased Mincey down the street, where he caught him and escorted him back to the home to await the arrival of police.
Mincey was arrested and police found a small bag of what was believed to be marijuana on his person. He was also in possession of a Dodge key and key fob that he was using to attempt entry into the officer’s vehicle. He was also carrying a backpack with several other types of automobile keys.
Mincey was booked into Potter County Jail on charges of theft and possession of marijuana.
