Off-duty Ind. deputy killed in motorcycle accident

MARION COUNTY, Ind. — An off-duty Marion County sheriff’s deputy was killed Sunday night in a motorcycle accident.

Eric Stofer, 35, hit a pothole around 7:40 p.m. while driving near Acton Road and Maze Creek Road near the Marion - Johnson County line, according to State Police who are investigating the incident. He was riding a Silver 2002 Suzuki motorcycle when he crashed and was not wearing a helmet. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

Rescue crews tried to treat Stofer when they first arrived at the scene, but he was pronounced dead a little before 8:00.
