WAUKESHA, Wis. — A former youth counselor at Ethan Allen School for Boys was charged after allegedly providing an inmate a cell phone and alcohol.
Kelly J. Janczak, 36, of West Allis, was charged Oct. 8 in Waukesha County Circuit Court with one felony count of delivering illegal articles to an inmate. She is scheduled to make her initial appearance in court Oct. 28.
According to the criminal complaint, the Waukesha Country Sheriff’s Department learned June 23 that a 20-year-old inmate was in possession of a cell phone, which is against the rules at the juvenile detention facility in the Town of Delafield.
Investigators searched the inmate’s room and found letters written to the inmate signed by a Sonda Miller of Milwaukee. Police also investigated the inmate’s phone and found there had been phone contact between Janczak and the inmate.
Investigators questioned the inmate, who said Janczak did give him the phone and gin, which she brought in a water bottle. He also said there was sexual contact between himself and Janczak, the complaint said.
The address listed on the letters was to an apartment in elderly housing complex in Milwaukee that is occupied by a woman, the complaint said. Police learned the woman was the mother of the name on the letters. That woman was a friend of Janczak. The woman told police that Janczak informed her that an individual would be sending her letters but to her mother’s address. The woman said she would pick up the letters and gave them to Janczak.
