ST. AUGUSTINE — Twenty-two female inmates in one cell block at the ST. Johns County Jail tested positive for Suboxone, an opiate used to treat heroin addiction, last month.
Corrections officers traced the drugs back to one particular inmate, Hana Marie Coulson, who was in jail serving sentences for drug possession and fraudulent use of a credit card.
Searches of her cell turned up remnants of the drug in an unusual form, according to Jacksonville.com: small, almost invisible pieces. The drug is actually available in strips “similar to the Listerine strips you place on your tongue,” according to Sgt. Chuck Mulligan.
“What happened was that the strips were cut into smaller pieces and then placed under stamps and envelopes,” Mulligan said.
The mail came from Chelsey Marie Camerone, who was charged Wednesday with smuggling contraband into the jail and other charges.
