ALDEN, N.Y. — An inmate at the Erie County Correctional Facility in Alden is accused of having been caught with synthetic marijuana in his prosthetic leg.

Gregorio Chevere, 39, of Buffalo, was arrested Thursday after correction officers conducted a routine search of the jail’s Gulf Housing area, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Officers discovered a folded piece of paper containing a green, leafy substance suspected to be K2 spice that had allegedly been secreted inside Chevere’s prosthetic leg, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The Sheriff’s Office Narcotics and Intelligence Unit was called to the facility, and, after a brief investigation, Chevere was charged with first-degree possession of dangerous contraband in prison, a class D felony.

Chevere remained in custody at the correctional facility pending his arraignment on the charge, the Sheriff’s Office said.
