ORISKANY, N.Y. — An officer was stabbed by an inmate while dispensing medication at Oneida County Jail.

Three COs and a nurse opened John Crosby’s cell Thursday to give him medication when he threw a punch at an officer then stabbed him with an unknown object, NewYorkUpstate reported.

Officers deployed pepper spray and placed Crosby back in his cell. The CO was transported to the hospital where he was treated for a stab wound to the shoulder and released.

Officials said they searched Crosby’s cell but found no weapon, the publication reported. Sheriff Rob Maciol told WIBX that the weapon may have been flushed down the toilet.

Crosby faces a second-degree assault charge.
