A local television station is reporting that Henry Smith, an escapee from from Angola State Prison, has finally been captured. Smith, 44, is serving a lifetime sentence after being convicted of second degree murder in Jefferson Parish.
Smith escaped from Angola prison in West Feliciana Parish on Thursday, September 10, 2009 while picking up trash on the prison grounds. He managed to evade the escape team over the weekend before being captured early this morning around 8:30 am north of the prison.
Smith was spotted by a chase team member as he crossed Pickneyville Road near Highway 66 close to the LA/MS border. Smith was captured a short time afterward.
