WAUPUN — Wisconsin will spend more than half a million dollars on renovations to four of the eight guard towers at Waupun Correctional Institution.
The State Building Commission authorized the $518,000 project during a meeting Wednesday.
The four elevated officer workstations, as the Department of Corrections calls them, were built in 1910 on top of the prison’s 22-foot-tall perimeter walls. The workstations haven’t undergone major renovations since 1964, said Randall Mattison, a DOC budget analyst.
“They’re heated, but we need to improve the heating, insulation and update the windows and doors,” he said.
