LAKE COUNTY, Ill. — Corrections Officer Dante Brown has the honor of being the first corrections officer to receive the Rising Shield of Law Enforcement from the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police.

The Lake County News Sun reports that Brown was named for the award for compiling and organizing data concerning gang members who are current and former inmates. He then distributes that information to local law enforcement, county investigators and judiciary divisions.

Brown also spends his own time conducting or participating in drug, anti-gang and law enforcement education classes. He spends a lot of time with the public, educating them about law enforcement and explaining how choices impact their future.

He has also helped recruit 25 officers.
