MUNCIE, Ind. — With Delaware County spending hundreds of thousands of dollars each year to house inmates in jails in other counties, Sheriff Mike Scroggins said Monday that he will transport inmates to the state corrections department more quickly and more often to save costs.

Scroggins told the county commissioners on Monday about his new plan to move even as few as a single inmate to the state Department of Correction rather than waiting to move several at a time.

“I don’t care if it’s one or 10, I want them out,” Scroggins said. “If I can get 10 out, I can bring 10 back (from other county jails).” He paused and acknowledged, “It’s a revolving door.”
