RACINE — A 16-year-old Racine boy remained behind bars Monday night after he was accused of breaking into a Racine County sheriff’s deputy’s home last month, a week after allegedly burglarizing another home.
Eli S. Santos Jr., of the 900 block of Jackson Street, was charged Monday with two counts of burglary stemming from an alleged break-in on July 14 at the Racine home of a sheriff’s deputy just seven days after allegedly burglarizing a home in the 1000 block of LaSalle Street in Racine, according to his criminal complaints.
According to Racine police reports, as she was leaving for work on the morning of July 14. the deputy saw Santos pounding on the door of a neighboring home. The deputy called police dispatch shortly after 7 a.m., saying she was concerned the teen saw her leaving for work and wanted her home checked, the police report stated.
An officer found the back door ajar and glass on the ground and reportedly nabbed Santos as he walked out the front door carrying a jewelry box with about $3,000 in jewelry, the police report stated. Santos initially was taken to Racine County Juvenile Detention, the report stated.
