TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A new Florida bill says women giving birth in a state prison or county jail will not be handcuffed or restrained.
State senators passed the Healthy Pregnancies for Incarcerated Women Act on Friday. A similar bill is in the House, according to The Associated Press.
However, officers will be able to physically restrain women if they’re shown to be a security risk, according to the article.
