NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A federal judge has ruled that phone calls between inmates at the Metro Nashville jail and their attorneys are protected by attorney-client privilege.

The Wednesday ruling by U.S. District Judge William Haynes Jr.

called the jail’s recording of such calls a “serious threat” to constitutional rights, according to The Tennessean newspaper.

The ruling comes after defense attorney Patrick Frogge discovered recordings of about 300 jail calls to his law firm among information turned over by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in a sex-trafficking case.
