CLIO, Ala. — Rickey Cooper, 47, an Alabama Department of Corrections officer since 2007, died over the weekend after collapsing while on duty.
According to WSFA, the incident occurred on August 27 at Easterling Correctional Facility and Cooper was transported to a hospital, where he later died. Cooper leaves behind his mother, son and two grandsons.
Cooper would have been at the facility for 15 years as of September 4. His cause of death is unknown.
“His co-workers are truly saddened by his sudden loss,” the Alabama DOC said in a press release.
