SAN JACINTO, Texas — A former corrections officer was killed in an on-duty crash Saturday night.

Bluebonnet News reported that San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Deputy Bryan Pfluger, 36, a former Taylor County CO, was responding to a burglary in progress when his vehicle collided with another deputy’s vehicle.

Sheriff Greg Capers said troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety are investigating the crash. According to Capers, Pfluger was ejected from his vehicle and thrown around 50 feet when his vehicle rolled.

Pfluger was transported to a hospital, where he later died. He had worked for the sheriff’s office for four years. He leaves behind a wife and new baby.

The other deputy involved in the crash, Capers said, is expected to recover from his injuries.
