2 COs attacked by inmate after visitation cut short

CLAY COUNTY, Ky. — An inmate jailed on multiple charges, including murder, faces additional charges after he assaulted two Clay County corrections officers.

According to LEX 18, Danny Stewart was visiting with a friend Tuesday when an officer noticed Stewart attempt to pass contraband.

The CO cut the visit short and placed Stewart in a holding cell, WKYT reported. When Stewart began threatening another inmate in the cell, officers attempted to intervene. A prison official told LEX 18 that he punched the two COs and attacked them with an ink pen.

Both officers were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

Stewart is charged with two counts of assault on an officer.
