POLKTON, N.C. — A Lanesboro Correctional Institution officer was attacked by an inmate on Saturday, Daily Journal reported.
The officer was treated and released from the hospital. An investigation has begun into the attack but no charges were filed.
The officer and inmate have not been named.
The last attack on a correctional officer at the facility was in 2014 when Edwin Faulkner was injured after an inmate cut his face with a razor.
Lanesboro is a high-security, close-custody state prison staffed by over 500 officers with the capacity to house 1,400 inmates.
