LUMBERTON, NC — The Robeson County Jail has put in a request for the board of commissioners to consider a grant that the jail would use to purchase handheld radios.

Sheriff’s Maj. George Kenworthy said he would like to apply for a $15,000 no-matching block grant through the Governor’s Crime Commission to be used to purchase radios for use at the county jail, according to the Robesonian.

“These radios will be used in the daily operations by staff to communicate with each other,” he said.

Sheriff Ken Sealay is also asking the commissioners to pass a resolultion approving three recent retirees of his department to receive their handguns.

The commission will meet on Tuesday.
