NJ CO punched in face, knocked unconscious by inmate

Veteran CO transported to a medical facility for injuries after the attack

BORDENTOWN, N.J. — A ten-year veteran corrections officer was jumped and knocked unconscious by an inmate at the Garden State Youth Correctional Facility on April 1.

Corrections Officer Garrett Faryna was punched in the face and knocked to the ground while on duty around 7 a.m. Reports said Faryna was knocked unconscious when his head hit the floor.

According to NJ.com, other officers suffered injuries after wrestling the inmate to the floor.

Faryna, who was hired as a corrections officer in 2006, was transported to a medical center in Trenton to be treated for his injuries, and will be on extended leave while he recovers.
