NORCO, Calif. — Rock band Prophets of Rage played an impromptu show outside a state prison after their scheduled performance inside the facility was cancelled over security concerns, according to Rolling Stone.
The band played a spontaneous three-song set outside the prison walls.
The cancellation came from the state capital over inadequate time for security clearances for the band and the media, according to the report.
“We got shut down because the powers that be in Sacramento thought we were going to try and incite some kind of racial riot,” drummer Brad Wilk told the publication. “It just really sucks because anytime we can have an opportunity to play in front of people and inspire people in a positive manner ... is always a good thing. That was taken away today.”
The band is made up of members of the rock band Rage Against the Machine and rappers from Public Enemy and Cypress Hill. Both Rage Against the Machine and Public Enemy are known for their politically-charged lyrics.
