COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A Colorado inmate who was out of prison, but still on intensive supervision is now accused of first-degree murder.
Brandon Chad Cockrell, 33, was arrested Saturday accused of killing 19-year-old Ishmal Mitchell. Police said Mitchell was shot multiple times around 8:30 Friday night in the 2200 block of N. Cheyenne Canyon Road near Helen Hunt Falls.
TARGET 13 discovered that Cockrell was supposed to be wearing an ankle monitor and checking in daily with a corrections officer, a striking similarity to murderer Evan Ebel, the parolee on intensive supervision who cut off his ankle monitor and killed Department of Corrections Chief Tom Clements and Nate Leon of Denver. Ebel’s parole officer didn’t check on him for days after he tampered with the ankle monitor and the case led to the firing of Colorado Parole Chief Tim Hand.
