DALTON, Ga. — The second of two private probation officers accused of sexually assaulting women under their supervision has been booked into the Murray County jail after being extradited from Oklahoma.
Jeff Dewayne Bully, 45, was charged Wednesday by the Murray County Sheriff’s Office with five counts of rape, six counts of aggravated assault against a person in custody/on parole/on probation/in a hospital, six counts of sodomy, sexual battery and criminal attempt to commit a felony.
Bully and Bobby Edwards of Jasper were indicted by a grand jury in May for assaulting women at a residential substance recovery center in Murray County.
Detective Jimmy Davenport said the investigation began with a call from one of the residents regarding living conditions and food at the facility.
“When we began talking to some of the women, it grew from there,” he said.
Davenport said Bully operated the facility and Edwards was an employee. The women, he said, were sentenced to the facility by courts in the Metro Atlanta area.
Edwards was booked into the jail on May 18 on charges of sexual battery and sexual assault on a parolee or probationer. He remains in jail on $10,000 bond.
“Edwards has a bond, but has not posted it. I believe he also has holds from other jurisdictions,” said District Attorney Bert Poston.
According to a report by Oklahoma TV station KTEN, Bully was arrested on Aug. 19 in Durant, Okla., after officials there were tipped off by law enforcement officials in Georgia.
Bully is scheduled for a bond hearing on Wednesday.
