d3o and Damascus Protective Gear® to Offer Innovative New Glove Protection for Law Enforcement and Tactical Markets

Damascus Protective Gear becomes the first company to bring the revolutionary protective qualities of d3o to the Law Enforcement and Tactical markets, with new products containing the material to be launched at the 2007 Shot Show in Orlando, Florida.

d3o is a material containing intelligent molecules which flow freely under normal conditions but lock together on shock to absorb impact energy. The molecules act like a net, locking together to absorb and spread the force of any impact. This combination of qualities is revolutionary, and has created a material that is perfect for applications requiring acute trauma attenuation. As the graph shows, as well as providing a lower profile, d3o provides significantly more protection than conventional PE foam.

The material has already been utilised for high impact applications in the sports market by companies such as Spyder®. Spyder incorporated the material into race suits which helped the US ski teams on their way to medal winning success in the 2006 winter Olympics by protecting them from the impact of race gates at speeds of over 60mph. Now Damascus will be the first to bring d3o technology to the Law Enforcement and Tactical markets in a new range of elite tactical and assault entry gloves. The gloves, constructed with d3o placed into the knuckle areas will allow Law Enforcement and Tactical professionals to retain freedom of movement and a low profile, whilst gaining the highest level of impact and shock absorption; vital for riot and field operations.

The material is being used in other glove applications in football and snowboarding gloves, protecting goalkeeper’s knuckles when punching the ball, and snowboarder’s palms when falling on the slopes. Now the benefits athletes have experienced can be utilised to protect our Law Enforcement and Tactical professionals as well.

Damascus also has other designs in the works for other gloves styles and tactical/military gear.

Damascus will be launching the new First Responder gloves at the Shot Show, running from January 11th - 14th, 2007, at the Orange County Convention centre in Orlando, Florida.
