Berkeley Varitronics Systems to Exhibit at IFSECINDIA 2010 at Booth D30C

Metuchen, NJ and Mumbai, India -- Berkeley Varitronics Systems, Inc. (BVS), a leading provider of advanced wireless solutions and security products to the domestic and international wireless telecommunications industry, today announced that the company will be an exhibitor at IFSECINDIA 2010 in Mumbai, India, November 23 – 25. The event is India’s largest commercial homeland security conference. Last year’s show attracted 11,447 security professionals from around the globe. This year’s event is expected to be considerably larger.

BVS will be exhibiting its family of cell phone detection products. They include Wolfhound and Wolfhound-Lite that can detect RF energy to determine the location of contraband cell phones in restricted areas. The subject of contraband cell phones in correctional facilities is becoming a priority issue for prison officials.

According to the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), the use of contraband cell phones by inmates has risen exponentially as the U.S. prison population continues to expand. However, the problem is not confined to the US. For example, just two years ago authorities in India confiscated more than 600 cell phones in a prison in the state of Gujarat.

This past August the Wolfhound cell phone detector was used at the maximum security Bangkwang Prison located near Bangkok, Thailand, and located ten contraband cell phones in just under thirty minutes. And this was after passing through 7 layers of perimeter security.

“Our company and our network of international distributors are receiving inquiries on a daily basis from corrections officials on a worldwide basis,” said Scott Schober, President & CEO of BVS. “The exciting part about our mobile cell phone detection tool is that it does not use jamming that can disrupt authorized cellular communications. We’re looking forward to participating in this increasingly important show,” added Schober. BVS will be exhibiting the Wolfhound and Wolfhound-Lite in booth number D30C.
