Corrections facility that hasn’t housed inmates in 2 years may reopen

TAFT, Calif. — The community corrections facility in Taft has sat empty for two years, but a new proposal by Governor Jerry Brown could bring inmates back into the facility.

An assembly budget committee passed the governors $700 million dollar plan, Thursday, that could return the inmates back to the community corrections facility.

With more than 10,000 inmates needed to be moved from state prisons, but the facility in Taft could house about 500 of them.
