Case against jail officer smuggling contraband dismissed

Deputies say they caught David Ware while he was attempting to smuggle marijuana into the facility

JACKSON, Miss. — The case against a correctional officer who was accused of smuggling contraband into the Hinds County Detention Center was dismissed after an investigator failed to appear in court to testify against him.

WAPT reports that Donald Ware was released from the Hinds County Courthouse after the hearing.

Deputies say they caught Ware while he was attempting to smuggle marijuana into the facility.

Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith said he was disappointed by the turnout, and also said that it’s unusual for an investigator to fail to show up for a hearing.

The investigator won’t face any charges for not appearing.

Smith says he still plans to file charges against Ware.
