TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Florida Department of Corrections is offering correctional officers up to $6,000 in hiring and retention bonuses at select institutions.
A new $1,000 hiring bonus is available at multiple prisons across the state, FDC announced. At some of those institutions, eligible officers may also qualify for an existing $5,000 retention bonus.
The full $6,000 in incentives is available at:
- Apalachee Correctional Institution in Sneads
- Gulf Correctional Institution in Wewahitchka
- Hamilton Correctional Institution in Jasper
- Jackson Correctional Institution in Malone
- Liberty Correctional Institution in Bristol
- Northwest Florida Reception Center in Chipley
- Okeechobee Correctional Institution in Okeechobee
- Santa Rosa Correctional Institution in Milton
- Taylor Correctional Institution in Perry
Calhoun Correctional Institution in Blountstown is offering the $1,000 new-hire bonus only.
Four additional facilities offer the $5,000 retention bonus: Columbia Correctional Institution in Lake City, Reception and Medical Center in Lake Butler, Suwannee Correctional Institution in Live Oak and Wakulla Correctional Institution in Crawfordville.
New officers become eligible for the bonuses after receiving certification through the Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission, according to FDC.
FDC correctional officers start at $22 per hour and receive paid training, state employee benefits and high-risk retirement benefits. The department also offers opportunities for advancement.
